Iran is the most sanctioned country in the world. Yet, there has been little investigation of the systemic impacts sanctions have had beyond their targeted economic effects. Rethinking Iran is embarking on a multi-year interdisciplinary project to provide a comprehensive analysis that studies the effects of sanctions on the general welfare of urban and rural communities, social dynamics, civic space, the environment, and other areas of concern. The aim is to provide a holistic perspective of the consequences of sustained sanctions to help inform the political and academic discourse surrounding this widely used foreign policy tool.
