Feminist Futures is a multimedia platform that builds upon the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprisings in Iran to take stock of the continued increase in social movements around the world that are led by women* and queer people.

The “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” uprisings in Iran fostered an impulse to call the women-led movement a “revolution.” However, theorists of revolution may challenge the labeling as a misnomer. In light of this, we ask: what would it mean, or take, to redefine “revolution” away from the violent usurpation of state power? Feminist Futures considers this redefinition as its point of departure, viewing it as an opportunity to reexamine the often overlooked power of global feminist uprisings.

Feminist Futures features bilingual critical reflections and provocations by leading theorists, artists, and activists from around the world, with the aim of engaging in meaningful deliberations about the intersections of global feminist liberation movements. The platform takes seriously the call of feminist scholarship to contemplate how movements for change organize, create, and strategize, and together imagine the future. Feminist Futures provides a roadmap to our current moment, sparks creative and intellectual connections across spaces, and envisions pathways forward.
